Born on September 2nd, 2001, in Kyoto Prefecture. Ran Takahashi began playing volleyball in second grade by following the steps of his older brother by two years, and until his first year in junior high school he played in various positions including libero. In Kyoto Municipal Hachigaoka Junior High School, he played in the Nippon Junior High School Volleyball Tournament for three consecutive years, and also won the national tournament during his second year. During his third year in Higashiyama High School, he led his team to win 3rd place in the Inter-High School Volleyball Tournament, 1st place in the national tournament, and 1st place in the All-Japan High School Volleyball Championship “Haruko” by never losing a single game.
In 2020 Ran was selected to be on the Japan men’s national volleyball team for the first time, and in 2021 he played in the Tokyo Olympics while he was a second-year student at Nippon Sport Science University. He was on the starting line-up in every game, contributing to bringing the Japan men’s team to the quarterfinals for the first time in 29 years. While still being enrolled to Nippon Sport Science University, Ran signed with Italy’s Serie A team Padova, playing the entire season in Italy in 2022-23. As a member on the Japan team Ran continues to widen his appeal playing as a key offense and defense player in the Volleyball Nations League and FIVB Volleyball World Championship.
