Born in Kyoto Prefecture on September 2nd, 2001.
Ran joined his older brother to play volleyball while he was in 2nd grade, and played in various positions including libero, also known as a defensive specialist, until his 1st year in junior high school. He was a star player during his 3rd year in Higashiyama High School, leading his team to win second place in the Inter-High School Championships, and win the National Sports Festival as well as the Spring High School Volleyball Tournament (without dropping a single set).
Ran was selected to be on the Japan team for the first time in 2020, and played in the Tokyo Olympics during his 2nd year of study at the Nippon Sport Science University in 2021. He was on the starting lineup in every game, and led the men’s national team to be in the top 8 teams for the first time in 29 years. Despite being an active college student, Ran played for 3 seasons in Italy’s Serie A. In the 2023-2024 season, he played with Vero Volley Monza as one of their key players. He became the first Japanese player to play in the playoff final.
In May 2024, Ran announced that he will be playing with the Suntory Sunbirds in Osaka, Japan.
