Ran Takahashi began playing volleyball in 2nd grade under the influence of his older brother, Rui (current affiliation Nihon University, graduate of Higashiyama High School). Ran played at the national tournament for three consecutive years in junior high, then enrolled at Higashiyama High School in Kyoto, his hometown.
Boasting his height of 188 cm and his highest vertical jump of 343 cm, Ran was on the starting lineup in high school since his first year, and as an ace of his team by the third year, he led his team to the Top 4 of the Inter-High School Sports Festival. Furthermore, his team won the National Sports Festival of Japan as well as the All-Japan High School Tournament (Spring High School Volleyball).
Ran played as a libero until his first year in junior high school, and is also known for his high defense skills. In 2020, Ran was chosen as a member of the national team for the first time.
