The school was established in 1902.The Symphonic Band was founded in 1961 by Hisashi Hiramatsu, former president of the Japan Symphonic Band Federation. With the theme of “full of energy, full of smiles, and full of dreams,” the band aims to be loved by people. The orange costumes worn for marching have been passed down for almost 50 years since the 1970s. The band’s high performance has been recognized by the Rose Parade in the U.S., and they have performed with top artists in music videos. Recently, they have recorded music for an animated film by a world-renowned film director. Their energetic performance is centered on music with a songful spirit and steps.

Yutaka Kaneshiro, Advisor of Kyoto Tachibana High School Symphonic Band 
Born in 1978 in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture in Japan. After graduating from Shimane University’s Faculty of Education with a major in music, he went to Germany to study with Schmidt Bernhard, the trumpet player of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has studied trumpet under Hiroki Yamashiro, Akira Tanaka, and Schmidt Bernhard. and studied wind band teaching under Masaru Nakai and Hisashi Hiramatsu.
He became a teacher at Kyoto Prefectural Public High School in 2008, and in 2018, at the invitation of Hisashi Hiramatsu, he became the advisor of the Kyoto Tachibana SHS Band, retiring from the Kyoto Prefectural Public Teaching Staff. Currently, he is the vice president of the Kyoto Prefectural High School Symphonic Band Association.
